Nutrition.
The fourth element of your program is debatably the most confusing one, and for good reason.
“Want to lose weight? You need to quit eating carbs. Actually, you need to stop eating fat.”
“Well, my cousin told me he could only lose weight while intermittent fasting.”
“Hmm.. that’s funny because my former trainer told me I have to eat every 3 hours to speed up my metabolism.”
“Have you seen ‘What The Health?’ Maybe if I’m vegan then I’ll finally be able to lose the weight.”
“Vegan? Actually I heard about a study that said if you eat only meat that you can reverse autoimmune diseases and it will melt all your belly fat.”
Get the point?
Here’s the truth about nutrition - it is far more simple and also far more complex than we like to admit.
That’s confusing isn’t it? Let’s clear that up.
Simplicity: Want to lose weight? It will require being in a caloric deficit over time. Want to gain weight? It will require being in a caloric surplus over time. Want to gain muscle? It will require consistent strength training where your muscles need to adapt by increasing their size and a slight caloric surplus over time.
Complexity: Getting into a caloric deficit/surplus isn’t always easy as a simple formula. Tracking your intake and habits as a method of trial and error will be a more effective way to see how your body responds.
Human behaviour is reliably unpredictable. Changing and improving habits takes longer than we would like it to. And finally, results are almost never linear. So what should your nutrition plan be? As always, it depends.
What is your goal? What action steps are you willing to make when it comes to your nutrition, and what is your biggest challenge when it comes to nutrition, are a couple of simple questions to answer right off the bat.
Once again, we will meet you where you’re at and we need you to do the same. In our experience, if you commit to a plan that you cannot sustain, it can lead to great results in the short term and a great collapse in the long term. Our philosophy is to avoid that at all costs. We will work with you to set up a plan that you can follow consistently; one that will yield results and maintain them.
