Recovery.

The final element in your program is recovery. What is recovery and why does it matter to you? Well that’s a good question. Recovery is simply your body and mind recovering and adapting to the stimulus that you put it through each day. Recovery is not specific to training. We rest, recover and adapt to all stimulus in our lives.

Have you ever pulled an all-nighter studying or at work? Your body, brain and psyche needed to recover from that.

Have you ever finished an intense training session or training program? Well your body, brain and psyche needed to recover from that as well.

Have you ever finished a bottle of vodka in a night? Well you definitely needed to recover from that.

Now, how does this relate to your program?

Well, we talked about your goals, mindset, training and nutrition so far. If you’re not resting and recovering enough to progress in your training, it will affect your performance. If your training is suffering, so will your progress. If your progress is suffering, then your mindset and motivation might be, too. If your mindset and motivation are suffering, then maybe eating those veggies seems pointless. Or doing that hard training session seems futile. Or those goals you so eagerly set seem entirely unattainable.

It all ties in together. The way we see it is that the more rested, recovered and prepared you are, the more likely you’ll be able to reach your goals.

What does recovery look like when it comes to your program? There are several things to take into account. How many hours of sleep are you getting per night? What is the quality of the sleep you are getting? How do you feel going into each training session? How is your overall mood? Is your performance improving in the gym? I think you get the point.

We will use recovery as the tool to ensure your body is responding appropriately to your training and adapting to the stimulus you are putting yourself under.
